Run your site through any free tool and you'll get a score and 200 "issues." What you won't get is a senior human telling you which five of them are quietly costing you rankings - and how to fix them. A real SEO audit is judgment, not just a crawl. At SilverCrest, we run the same technical scans the tools do, then do the part the tools can't: read your site the way Google and your buyers actually do, and hand you a prioritized plan. And because we're engineers, we can implement the fixes - not just file them.

What an SEO audit actually is
An SEO audit is a full diagnostic of everything on your website that affects how it ranks in Google - and now, how it shows up in AI answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. It surfaces the technical blockers, content gaps, and authority problems that keep your pages from ranking, then tells you what to fix first. Done right, it's the highest-leverage hour you'll spend on SEO all year, because everything you build afterward stands on what the audit finds.
The automated tools that dominate this search are useful - we use them too. But a 100-point scanner flags "missing meta description." It doesn't notice that three of your pages are competing for the same keyword, that your top service page targets the wrong search intent, or that 4,000 thin programmatic pages are burning your crawl budget. That takes a person who's done it before.
The three layers we audit
Every SilverCrest audit covers three connected layers. Weakness in any one caps the other two.
1. Technical SEO audit
The foundation - can search engines crawl, render, and index your site efficiently? We check:
- Crawlability & indexationrobots.txt, XML sitemaps, index bloat, orphan pages,
noindexmistakes - Core Web Vitals & page speedLCP, CLS, INP, render-blocking resources
- JavaScript renderingwhether your content actually reaches the index (a common silent killer on modern frameworks)
- Site architecture & internal linkingdepth, crawl budget, redirect chains, canonical tags, hreflang
- Structured dataschema coverage and validity, which increasingly drives rich results and AI citations
See our dedicated technical SEO service for how we fix what this layer finds.
2. Content & on-page audit
Do your pages match real search demand, and are they built to rank? We review:
- Search intent alignmentdoes the page give searchers (and Google) what the query wants?
- Keyword mapping & cannibalizationpages fighting each other for the same term
- On-page fundamentalstitles, headings, meta, internal links, image alt text
- Content quality & depththin, outdated, or duplicate content vs. the pages that actually rank
- Coverage gapsvaluable queries you don't have a page for yet
This feeds directly into our on-page SEO work.
3. Backlink & off-page audit
Authority is still how search engines and AI models decide who to trust. We assess:
- Backlink profile & referring domainsquality, relevance, and growth trend
- Toxic or spammy linksrisk of manual actions or algorithmic suppression
- Competitor link gapthe authoritative sites linking to competitors but not you
- Brand & entity signalshow consistently the web (and AI models) understand who you are
That gap analysis becomes the roadmap for our link building program.
We also audit for AI search
Search is splitting into ten blue links and AI answers. A growing share of your buyers now ask ChatGPT or read a Google AI Overview before they ever click. So every audit includes an Answer Engine Optimization layer: is your content structured, cited, and entity-clear enough for answer engines to quote you? Most agencies aren't looking at this yet - it's core to how we work. More on our AEO/GEO approach.
What you get
Not a raw tool dump. A deliverable you can act on:
- A prioritized findings reportissues ranked by impact on traffic and revenue, not an alphabetical list of 200 warnings
- Sample findings like:"Your top three service pages compete for the same keyword - consolidate to one and you recover the internal authority you're splitting." Or: "Product pages render client-side; Google is indexing empty shells. Server-render these and you unlock ~1,200 currently-invisible pages."
- A clear fix planwhat to do, in what order, and the expected payoff of each
- A call with the person who did the audita senior engineer, not a sales rep, walking you through it
If you want us to implement the fixes, we can - that's the difference between us and every tool on this results page. We don't hand you a to-do list and disappear.
Why SilverCrest for your SEO audit
We're engineers who do SEO
The hardest audit findings - JavaScript rendering, crawl budget, schema, site architecture at scale - are exactly where tool reports go to die, because someone has to actually fix them in the codebase. We ship production software every week, so we can. We build software and AI products, which means your audit, your fixes, and your site can live under one accountable roof.
Human judgment on top of the crawl
We run the scanners, then apply the experience they can't: intent, cannibalization, thin content, and the business context behind why a page underperforms.
Findings ranked by revenue
We tell you the five things that move rankings before the 195 that don't.
Senior, transparent, no lock-in
You work directly with the people doing the work. Honest assessments, real priorities, no long contracts, no inflated dashboards.
Who this is for
Business owners who suspect their site is underperforming and want to know why. Marketing teams inheriting a site with no documentation. Companies planning a redesign or replatform who need a baseline first. Anyone who's run the free tools, gotten a wall of red, and thought: okay - but what do I actually do with this?
